What Could Be Better Than A Shelf Full Of Knick-knacks?

In answer to the above question: nothing. And that’s why I had some shelves put up in my ‘flamingo pink’ kitchen in order to show them off. Here, take a look at these photos; especially the last one. I absolutely love it… even if noone else does.

Photo of two white Pyrex mugs with pink, orange and brown flower pattern.

It doesn’t matter how thirsty anyone is NOONE touches these mugs.

Photo of three small pink plastic heart-shaped containers with lids.

Yes, they are ridiculously small and totally impractical but they’re pink and they’re heart-shaped and that is enough.

photo of front of a 1940's 1950's tin with red, pink and yellow roses.

(The front of my flowery tin.) If I could turn this into wallpaper, oh, believe me… I would.

Photo of plastic drinking cup in shape of a peach with green drinking straw.

This peach cup with leaf straw wasn’t even mine… but it is now.

Photo of a framed photo of a cat dressed in bomber jacket dj-ing.

Please do not tell me that the cat is stuffed and has been positioned like this cos I think I will cry.

Photo of a red wire fruit bowl in the shape of an apple.

I know. This ‘apple’ is crying out to be filled with oranges and bananas. Give us a chance…

Photo of a mosaic - made out of paper squares - of a flamingo's head.

This beautiful mosaic was the inspiration for the whole kitchen and, yes, it IS a flamingo.

Photo of white kitchen shelves with peachy pink walls and shelves filled with kitsch, retro, tacky and gaudy knick-knacks like cook books, tins, cups and photo.

And finally, here are my shelves. Yes, I know. They ARE lovely, aren’t they?

A Poem About My Lack Of Blog Post This Week

My Pink Christmas Tree

Do you mind if I don’t do a blogpost this week?

It’s just that I’ve got things to do.

The washing, the ironing… you know how it is?

And I’m guessing that you’re busy too.

Oh, I’m nowhere near ready for Christmas yet;

In fact, I’ve not written one card.

But what with three hens and a house and a cat,

Plus a load of commitments: it’s hard.

But I have put the tree up

(That much I will say).

And it’s gaudy and glitzy and pink.

And although it’s not everyone’s cup of tea

I’d love to know what you think.

So instead of that blogpost I mentioned before,

Why not check out my fabulous tree?

It won’t disappoint (well, at least, I hope not)

Come by Sunday at just after three.

And here it is…. Yeay!

Pink and flamingos (Part two)

Hey. I’ve just realized… I’m incognito.

You can’t tell me if you like my curtains or not, can you?

So I will never know…

My question will forever remain unanswered…

When I am aged 105, sitting in my pink rocking chair on my pink back porch looking out onto my – what will be, by then – vast collection of pink lawn flamingos, it will be a mystery that I shall forever ponder…

Did you or didn’t you like my pink flamingo curtains?

Tell me!!! Please…

Don Featherstone was a wonderful wonderful man. How bare my lawn would be without him…

Did I tell you that I like pink and flamingos? (Part one)

Did I tell you that I like pink and flamingos? Oh, well, I do. In fact, here… take a look and I’ll show you how much:

This is the window in my downstairs bathroom. Do you like my curtains? Yes, they’re the ones the next door neighbour’s cat ripped to shreds when he got stuck in there overnight.

And here is a framed postcard of a flamingo. (I like red too… especially if it’s combined with pink. And if you were to add yellow to that colour combo then, well… I’d be in heaven.) And can you see the curtains again? Yes, they’re great, aren’t they? Luckily I was able to sew them up with some very careful stitching. So let me ask you again… do you like my curtains?

And finally, here is the mirror in my downstairs bathroom. Look carefully in the reflection and you will see a pink shelf and a pink door frame and another shot of the curtains. What do you think? I have great taste? Well, thankyou. Yes, I do and you’re too kind. Now, for the last time, and I’m trying to stay very calm, and I absolutely refuse to shout but… DO YOU LIKE MY CURTAINS?!

Well? I can wait…

Yes, I can…

So I will…

I’m still here.

(Dum dee dum…)

Oh, you know what? Never mind. I’m off. Goodbye.

(Oh, it’s no good. I can’t leave it like this. It’s just not who I am. I’m going to finish this properly…)

So, as you can see from the above, I really do like pink and flamingos; and that’s only one room. In fact, some days, I actually think I like them more than I love Toblerone and cake and my cat and my chickens and my family and my… Oh, my goodness! Did I actually just write that? What on earth are the cat and the chickens going to think of me?

(Okay, so now I’m finished.)

By the way… do you?
